BusinessWeek online is carrying a story titled “The Sweet Success of Smell“. I have to admit I’m surprised at how fast this is catching on. A million units for that Scent Stories thing? Get out! I could argue that might be as much attributable to P&G’s marketing savvy (and heavyweight status) as it is to them putting out a truly good product. I don’t know. But there’s no arguing that there has been increasing news about the power of scent over the last few years. I suppose it won’t be long before videogames and virtual worlds include the technology. Just hope that when I finally try it, it’s memorable in all the ways John Water’s Polyester (in “Odorama”) wasn’t.
