On Tim O’Reilly’s Radar

Looks as though virtual real estate (represented visually in Second Life as “land”, but really equating to computing resources) has gotten the attention of Tim O’Reilly, CEO of O’Reilly Media, Inc. Considering the company focuses on technology (“paying attention to what’s new and interesting”), I’m a little surprised this is news to him. Maybe I shouldn’t be so baffled that the marketing community as a whole still doesn’t seem to comprehend the possibilities. Anyway, wonder if he’ll be showing up in-world to see for himself. You can read his blog entry here.

(edit: appears I misunderstood Mr. O’Reilly’s post. At first I thought it was about the “landlord” aspect, but then the rest of the post sounded equally revelatory. My bad for misunderstanding he was apparently informing his readers. His clarification: “What was interesting to me about Philip’s comment was how he framed his business: he isn’t a service provider. He’s a landlord.” So my initial thought was correct. Apologies. Now I’m back to being baffled by the larger marketing community… *sigh*)
