Here, Have Another Cuban

Wired is carrying an article on Mark Cuban who I mentioned yesterday. Of course, it’s mostly about what I blogged – content distribution – or was at least hinting at, but still a good read (especially the comment about going to the theater to watch an in-game videogame competition as if it were a sports broadcast).

There was also a discussion in the Second Life forums that’s relevant imo. It concerns 3D file formats and how to improve the quality of SL’s visuals. Might head over and read it if you can stomach the lingo. But the upshot is this: parametric models (the kind defined by math equations like Volume=1/3 * base * height ) are not only easy to use since the data is so compact but can be extremely powerful. And it just so happens that parametric modeling is what manufacturing mostly uses – Pro/E (an extremely popular 3D CAD package) is parametric. If it’s good enough for the real world…
