{"id":1031,"date":"2006-09-27T21:00:01","date_gmt":"2006-09-28T01:00:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.rebang.com\/?p=1031"},"modified":"2006-10-01T11:24:03","modified_gmt":"2006-10-01T15:24:03","slug":"dibbell-in-the-well","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.rebang.com\/?p=1031","title":{"rendered":"Dibbell in the WELL"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve been looking for some time to read the discussion with Julian Dibbell, author of <a href=\"http:\/\/terranova.blogs.com\/terra_nova\/2006\/06\/play_money.html\">Play Money<\/a>, over on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.well.com\/conf\/inkwell.vue\/\">The WELL (Link)<\/a>, and finally found it. Fortunately it hasn&#8217;t progressed as fast as I figured it would, so it didn&#8217;t take too long to catch up. At this point they&#8217;re on the usual topic of &#8220;why do people pay real money for stuff that isn&#8217;t real&#8221;, about which I&#8217;ve posted my own thoughts both here and elsewhere. They haven&#8217;t really discussed some of the more interesting social side effects of virtual world technology; just some hints here and there. I&#8217;d like to see them address some of the issues I raised in <a href=\"http:\/\/slfuturesalon.blogs.com\/second_life_future_salon\/2005\/04\/the_flat_earths.html\">my post on the SL Future Salon blog (Link)<\/a>. Perhaps they&#8217;ll be covering those issues soon.
