{"id":1154,"date":"2007-02-02T20:16:32","date_gmt":"2007-02-03T01:16:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.rebang.com\/?p=1154"},"modified":"2007-02-07T17:34:40","modified_gmt":"2007-02-07T22:34:40","slug":"the-significance-of-personal-fabrication","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.rebang.com\/?p=1154","title":{"rendered":"The Significance of Personal Fabrication"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I happened to be surfing around and via the <a href=\"http:\/\/3dreplicators.com\/\">Clanking Replicator project website<\/a> I found a decent &#8211; though old &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.agoravox.com\/article.php3?id_article=5006\">article over on AGORAVOX (link)<\/a> discussing open source fabrication devices (in general) and <a href=\"http:\/\/reprap.blogspot.com\/\">RepRap<\/a> (in particular) and the overall importance of these developments on the manufacturing world&#8230; especially China. There isn&#8217;t much explanation for <em>why<\/em> rapid manufacturing technology threatens China&#8217;s manufacturing dominance {it should be obvious, but at least in the U.S. there&#8217;s a whole lot of people who have no clue how things get made}, but I don&#8217;t need one since I&#8217;m already on record making the same observation. However, I&#8217;m also on record as saying it&#8217;ll be a long time before fab-on-demand has an appreciable impact; perhaps not until after my time on this rock has expired. Even so, it&#8217;s worth a read.
