{"id":1244,"date":"2007-04-10T11:00:01","date_gmt":"2007-04-10T15:00:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.rebang.com\/?p=1244"},"modified":"2007-04-20T14:40:45","modified_gmt":"2007-04-20T18:40:45","slug":"openavatarrfidpassportrealid","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.rebang.com\/?p=1244","title":{"rendered":"OpenAvatarRFIDPassportRealID?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There&#8217;s a bit of carryover from my previous post regarding avatars (<a href=\"http:\/\/blog.rebang.com\/?p=1242\">reLink<\/a>); how they&#8217;ll be increasingly adopted by users and how they may become increasingly important information containers&#8230; with or without our consent.<\/p>\n<p>The Simulation Weblog posted a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simulation.cc\/comments.php?id=372_0_1_0_C\">related entry on avatars (Link)<\/a> and the topic in comments has turned to avatars merging with passports (you can get a look at the relatively boring, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spychips.com\/blog\/2007\/03\/the_new_rfid_passport.html\">RFID-enabled U.S. passport over on the Spychips RFID blog &#8211; Link<\/a>).<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\nSimulation&#8217;s author read my mind when I raised the possibility of merging avatars with RFID passports:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I can see a future passport including a 3d scan of my face for facial recognition software, biometrics such as fingerprints, iris scans and DNA, as well as data such as social security numbers, address, etc etc. Why not package this as an&#8217;avatar&#8217;, since it could be made to look like me on line? In many ways it would be useful, since it would compine all my passowrds, identities, etc etc., into one user-friendly entity.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>If <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boingboing.net\/2007\/04\/10\/treasury_depts_250pa.html\">the wrong name can cause trouble<\/a>, imagine what else might throw a monkey wrench into living a normal life.
