{"id":1382,"date":"2007-09-07T12:20:22","date_gmt":"2007-09-07T16:20:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.rebang.com\/?p=1382"},"modified":"2007-10-01T13:30:25","modified_gmt":"2007-10-01T17:30:25","slug":"opensim-opening-things-up","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.rebang.com\/?p=1382","title":{"rendered":"OpenSim Opening Things Up"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sooner than expected, <a href=\"http:\/\/secondlife.reuters.com\/stories\/2007\/09\/06\/rival-grids-threaten-lindens-monopoly-on-sl-technology\/\">Reuters\/Second Life is reporting (Link)<\/a> on <a href=\"http:\/\/opensimulator.org\/wiki\/Main_Page\">OpenSim<\/a>&#8216;s success in emulating Linden Lab&#8217;s server system.<\/p>\n<p>Some of you are aware that Linden Lab open sourced pieces of the back end a couple of weeks ago. And of course they&#8217;ve been discussing making the server code open source for some time (the client is already open source). It appears, however, that their remaining timetable might <em>possibly<\/em> be influenced by Adam Frisby and friends.<\/p>\n<p>Probably not, though. I suspect some of the recent changes to LL&#8217;s system aren&#8217;t reflected in the OpenSim effort&#8230; yet. I would, however, be happy to be surprised.
