{"id":403,"date":"2005-11-08T12:20:11","date_gmt":"2005-11-08T16:20:11","guid":{"rendered":"\/?p=403"},"modified":"2005-11-10T23:56:32","modified_gmt":"2005-11-11T04:56:32","slug":"videostream-to-3d-cad-to-second-life","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.rebang.com\/?p=403","title":{"rendered":"Videostream to 3D CAD to Second Life"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"pic\/RocketinSL.jpg\" alt=\"RocketLauncherInSecondLife\" hspace=\"40\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Just wanted to post a follow-up to an earlier couple of entries on the &#8220;rocket launcher&#8221; (first mention of this is <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.rebang.com\/index.php?p=186\">here<\/a>  along with a recent <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.rebang.com\/index.php?p=399\">update<\/a> on some additional effort). After shipping the 3D files off to another <a href=\"http:\/\/secondlife.com\/\">Second Life<\/a> resident, programming whiz Jeffrey Gomez, I watched from inside the virtual world as he imported the object triangle-by-triangle using his import scripts. Although I&#8217;ve been aware of his scripts for some time, I&#8217;ve not used them, so watching the object slowly and methodically reconstitute itself inside SL was a treat (<a href=\"\/pic\/RocketinSL01.jpg\">pic<\/a>). It actually reminded me of the original (potential) destination for this file &#8211; a rapid prototyping machine, as this felt a little like that animation of the nanofactory concept I linked to some months back (find the animation for that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lizardfire.com\/html_nano\/nano.html\">here<\/a>), except I was there <em>inside<\/em> the machine. For a better sense of scale, here&#8217;s a <a href=\"\/pic\/RocketinSL03.jpg\">screencap<\/a> of my avatar next to the final output (the new standard in BFG&#8217;s) and another <a href=\"\/pic\/RocketinSL04.jpg\">image<\/a> with me standing amongst the pieces. Cool stuff.
