{"id":42,"date":"2005-03-07T10:20:46","date_gmt":"2005-03-07T18:20:46","guid":{"rendered":"\/?p=42"},"modified":"2024-11-14T14:13:17","modified_gmt":"2024-11-14T22:13:17","slug":"a-second-life-outside-of-second-life","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.rebang.com\/?p=42","title":{"rendered":"A Second Life Outside of Second Life"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Scanning over last week&#8217;s news on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gamedev.net\/\">GameDev.net<\/a> I noticed an interesting entry: the Wall Street Journal <a href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/article_email\/0,,SB110980439705868789-IhjgoNnlah4oJuuZ36GaKiHm5,00.html\">reports<\/a> (bottom of page) on the development behind Tringo, a game developed for play <i>inside<\/i> a virtual world but which has been licensed for both internet and mobile phone play.<center><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"wp-content\/pic\/codescrn.jpg\" alt=\"Doom3 videogame in-world interface\"\/><\/center><\/p>\n<p>I like this one because it&#8217;s related to this: I&#8217;ve been wondering and asking around why designers aren&#8217;t using the interface design tools now included with videogame SDK&#8217;s (Software Development Kits) to prototype real world interfaces inside a 3D game (e.g. Doom3 &#8211; see image above) &#8211; complete with in-game simulation of real world events like moving robotic arms or opening airlocks. It seems so obvious to be using these free tools.
