{"id":439,"date":"2005-11-23T13:48:40","date_gmt":"2005-11-23T18:48:40","guid":{"rendered":"\/?p=439"},"modified":"2005-11-25T16:34:37","modified_gmt":"2005-11-25T21:34:37","slug":"cultures-ad-bit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.rebang.com\/?p=439","title":{"rendered":"Culture&#8217;s Ad Bit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Interesting <a href=\"http:\/\/www.secretlair.com\/index.php?\/clickableculture\/entry\/virtual_cash_buys_eve_magazine_ads_pays_writers\/#break_3688\">post over on Clickable Culture<\/a> concerning the move of videogame <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eve-online.com\/\"><em>EVE Online<\/em><\/a> to offer ad space in it&#8217;s official magazine in exchange for virtual currency. As mentioned in the post, this isn&#8217;t entirely new. Second Life&#8217;s developer has been offering virtual currency for a number of resident services (or service attempts); Linden Lab typically states how much they&#8217;re willing to pay and then takes proposals\/submissions. There&#8217;s been a fair amount of discussion on this kind of &#8220;work&#8221;, for obvious reasons. What&#8217;s most interesting to me however is this bit from the post: <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>A <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ccpgames.com\/\">CCP<\/a> employee noted on the EVE blog that &#8220;E-ON is the first magazine I&#8217;ve heard people raving about the adverts.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Kind of goes with <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.rebang.com\/index.php?p=429\">my earlier post<\/a> on Massive&#8217;s possible inclusion of player-created ads within &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/thematrixonline.station.sony.com\/\"><em>The Matrix Online<\/em><\/a>&#8220;. I&#8217;ve been involved in a good conversation over on the SL forums about in-world (virtual) advertising so this all dovetails nicely.
