{"id":635,"date":"2006-02-05T11:46:44","date_gmt":"2006-02-05T16:46:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.rebang.com\/?p=635"},"modified":"2006-02-08T12:12:57","modified_gmt":"2006-02-08T17:12:57","slug":"diverging-while-converging","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.rebang.com\/?p=635","title":{"rendered":"Diverging While Converging"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A few days back I alerted WorldChanging&#8217;s prolific Jamais Cascio to recent news concerning the rapid-manufacturing of homes (see my earlier post &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.rebang.com\/?p=629\" target=\"blank\">Link<\/a>). He wrote a rather <a href=\"http:\/\/www.worldchanging.com\/archives\/004073.html\" target=\"blank\">long entry<\/a> as a result and to my surprise much of it is on some of what I&#8217;ve been doing. I&#8217;d actually have been more comfortable not being mentioned. And the funny thing is, I <em>wasn&#8217;t<\/em> really mentioned at all. Csven Concord, who is cited in the article, is of course the name of my avatar in Second Life.<\/p>\n<p>Last year I pointed out during a conversation with another resident, <a href=\"http:\/\/secondlife.game-host.org\/\" target=\"blank\">Gwyneth LLewelyn<\/a>, how a MSM outlet had used her virtual identity as a &#8220;source&#8221; for their article (the first time I&#8217;d ever seen that happen). They even quoted this virtual person as if it were flesh-and-blood. The real person behind Gwyneth didn&#8217;t seem to think anything of it. I&#8217;m not sure what I think now that it&#8217;s happened to me. But it does feel a bit odd to have a virtual persona created for a relatively small virtual world simulation move into the real world.<\/p>\n<p>Makes me wonder if I need to be concerned about <em>two<\/em> possible targets for identity theft. Now how did the guys on <em>Star Trek<\/em> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.startrek.com\/startrek\/view\/series\/TOS\/episode\/68670.html\" target=\"blank\">fuse Captain Kirk back<\/a> together?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A few days back I alerted WorldChanging&#8217;s prolific Jamais Cascio to recent news concerning the rapid-manufacturing of homes (see my earlier post &#8211; Link).
