An Interface for “Void Rock”

This is vaguely familiar, but it seems to be another video I missed while drowning in work on Virtual Laguna Beach last year. For those who’ve seen it already, hopefully this is just a pleasant reminder to keep your eye out for this thing since the “reactable” is starting to show up in concert (YouTube Link).

I found this particular video over on the Ghostfooting blog (Link) and thought I’d post my comment here as well:

Hadn’t seen that second video. Very nice. It’s similar to what I’ve been expecting someone in Second Life would create. I think there have been some moves in this direction, but I don’t know how far it’s gotten (I should check).

The other night, for the first time in over a year, I participated in a virtually social activity (not counting watching streaming conference videos): a live music performance by some spacerock guy. Couldn’t help thinking that what I was listening to was entirely canned – “virtual lip-synch” – and that he needed virtual instruments that actually functioned.

Now imagine if he had something like that device shown in the video and while he was using it at home, his avatar was operating virtual doppelgangers and the sound was being generated in that space.

Probably don’t have to imagine long.

This makes me want to put on some Gridlock or THD.
