For the inexplicably unaware, the Second Life Community Convention was held this past weekend in Chicago with the requisite keynotes and panels. I followed the liveblogging over on the Virtual World News site and would recommend surfing through it for information, so here are the relevant links:
– Philip Rosedale’s Keynote
– Sibley Verbeck Keynotes Business Track
– IP Rights and Law in Second Life
– Second Life in Europe
– Three Classes in Second Life

– Developers in Second Life
– Entrepreneurship in Second Life
– Case Studies-Selling Real Life Products
C|Net also happened to have a reporter in attendence, and so a few pieces were posted on the news.com site over the weekend. Here are some links:

And of course, there’s been some follow-on commentary around the SL-centric blogosphere.
The one that seems to be generating the most buzz involves comments made by Coca-Cola’s Director of Global Interactive Marketing, Mike Donnelly (see the final VWN link above).
While I was aware that the media was generally misrepresenting Coca-Cola’s effort in Second Life and might have written an entry here to call that out after reading his comments, Joel Greenberg of the Electric Sheep Company does a decent job of setting the record straight in his post “Coke Comes Clean about Second Life” (Link) so it’s unnecessary for me to post my own.
The only thing I will say is: Don’t depend on the media to get the facts straight. If you’re with a first mover company, then you need to be directly involved. If you’re with a follower company, then you’re wasting time reading this blog as well as the mainstream coverage.
