A seemingly insignificant article over on C|Net called “Name that metaverse” got me thinking that unlike the proverbial rose, another name might make all the difference in the world. The piece focuses on a roundtable held to discuss the name of virtual world “Second Life“, and suggest other, more appropriate names which might communicate to people unfamiliar with the game/virtual world/platform/whatever, that it’s not as simple as the now-dated graphics engine would make it appear. It’d sure be nice if more people understood what this sort of thing represented; but most don’t. Off the top of my head I’d suggest “Cospace“… except that one was used a while back. Bummer.
