Suicide Girls: Friend or Foe?

Via Boing Boing comes news that the net’s pseudo-pron collective, the Suicide Girls (NSFW), have migrated into the Second Life virtual world. Not counting the two Lindens(!) (founder Wilder and officer Jeska) the group totals 51 new members – many of whom appear to have joined in either late January or early February. And the new headquarters, located on Linden-owned land(!), is very nice (though restricted access – “roving-eye-view” only).

This news piqued my interest because one of the first things I happened across in Second Life was a series of images of Suicide Girl “Apnea” (Link – NSFW) being sold. Besides being uniquely attractive, Apnea has distinctive tattoos; easy to spot. And during the double-take I also noticed the “SG” logo on the images. So either a Suicide Girl (Apnea?) or authorized representative was in-world selling images early last year, or as is often the case, someone with an SG subscription was ripping images from the site, uploading them into SL and selling them.

For those aware of my interest in trademarks being used inside the Second Life virtual space, my curiousity over this development should come as no surprise. This may be the first real world trademark establishing a presence inside the Second Life main grid (not on some isolated island). However, the Linden involvement in this probably will surprise you.

And all I was doing was looking for the spot that was selling those images.
